No proper info on Gurgaon

December 7, 2008 by gurgaonfirst

Family called from Mumbai and asked for me to purchase Gurgaon’s special dish – I did not know Gurgaon was famous for dhodha till I got the call. I had to make a trip to old Gurgaon for that. I just realised, while driving back from sadar bazaar. Gurgaon does not have a proper guide on the city at all. I know I can google and find some stuff here and there under various gurgaonxxxxx.com sites. Incidentally I read some article about coming to Gurgaon on gurgaon.com - http://www.gurgaon.com/content/?p=286 –  it seems to have been written for tourists visiting Gurgaon more than for people who live here. Can you believe it that I did not know that Gurgaon was famous for dhodha. Let me try you further. Did you know that Gurgaon has a bird sanctuary? Got you. Didn’t I? About time someone made a site on Gurgaon ,a good one.

Hoping in Gurgaon

December 4, 2008 by gurgaonfirst

This is government bashing time, all over India – corruption, ineptness, no security, politicisation… At Gurgaon, it has been government bashing time for a few months, now – no roads, no water, no electricity, no security… Things have not changed much at Gurgaon. I hope things are different in the former case.

There was a time when Gurgaon was the apple’s eye of people. People were flocking it for investing their hard earned money and lakhs migrated to Gurgaon to live a peaceful, cleaner and traffic free life. What happened along the way is that the people who ran Gurgaon, has myopic vision or did not care. On the one side the Gurgaon administration did not care or think about basic things like water, power and roads for one of the fastest growing cities in India and on the other we have some hopefuls with a citizens’ wish list ( ai am one of them, though :( )

I suppose it is hope that keeps us all alive. Here is hoping that we have more than that to live for …in Gurgaon and in India

Gurgaon’s wish list

November 10, 2008 by gurgaonfirst

Hey folks, the weather is changing and we are getting the sweet cold winters now. Hopefully less people will venture out and we will get less traffic jams now :)

I was reading Gurgaon.com and they had a citizen’s wish list – http://www.gurgaon.com/content/?p=241

I thought I will put my wish list for Gurgaon too

1. More pubs with less brawny bouncers – so that less people get beaten up!

2. A few dozen helipads so that we do not have to suffer the roads

3. Cheaper houses so that us poor folks can afford them - this wish seems to be coming true

4. And last but not the least, UNCLOGG THE GURGAON EXPRESSWAY!

Gurgaon the city of everything

May 6, 2008 by gurgaonfirst

Gurgaon is turning into the achetype big bad city – one which has evrything – flashy clubs, glossy skyscrapers, gory crime – cops killed, kidney rackets, school kids shooting mates, civil unrest due to water shortages, worker strikes and black mail, villager muscling into housing societies… oh boy!

… did I forget vagabond call centre cabs and night life.
